There's a lot of uncertainty in life. And sometimes what happens to us is numbing. I can easily remember when it's happened to me. I also see it in my clients' lives. For example, when someone is blind-sided by bullying at work. When this goes on and on, the numbness sets in. At some point after the shock, and I've heard myself say it - 'I just want my life back the way it was'. This yearning is strong and drives home the significance of the loss we are experiencing. Have you heard the saying 'don't look back we're not going that way!' Easy to say, and yet to move forward we need to be willing to face the disorganization that follows when our life is torn apart. To get through this we'll need to feel cared for, learn some survival (coping) strategies, and create something new - an alternative to what we had.
